day 25: Cien Montaditos and Treasure Hunting

Monday June 9th

So, this Monday was our last Monday of our time in Sevilla; bittersweet for sure.

I had to take some pictures on my walk to school. The saying "NO8DO" is written everywhere. Here is a brief description (from wikipedia) of the story behind that-

""NO8DO" is the official motto of Seville. It is popularly believed to be a rebus signifying the Spanish "No me ha dejado", meaning "It [Seville] has not abandoned me", with the eight in the middle representing a madeja, or skein of wool. Legend states that the title was given by King Alfonso X, who was resident in the city's Alcazar and supported by the citizens when his son, later Sancho IV of Castille, tried to usurp him from the throne. The emblem is present on the municipal flag and features on city property such as manhole covers, and Christopher Columbus's tomb in the Cathedral."

The motto is written EVERYWHERE in Sevilla as a constant reminder of the thanks Alfonso X had for the Sevillanos.

Then, had to snag a photo of my FAVORITE chips from our school vending machine. They're like super cheap and super amazing. yummy.

Today after class we had a treasure hunt scheduled as our "excursion". We each were to split up into teams and race to finish finding each item on the list. Lots of them were pictures we had to take. My group, being the lazy kids that we are, decided to kinda BS the treasure hunt. Instead we all stopped at Cien Montaditos, a restaurant which means 100 Sandwiches in English. We spent most of our time cruising the internet looking for answers and drinking cheap beer/tintos. Wisely spent I thought.

We all met by the cathedral to share our treasure hunt answers and see who won. We obviously didn't win, which I wasn't upset about. BUT- after the meeting Rob and I headed back to Cien Montaditios for dinner.

For dinner we ordered one of their sandwich platters. Cien sells smaller sandwiches with chips. It's more like tapa-sized plates.

After dinner we didn't stay out late. It was Rob's last night in Sevilla and he had to be up early for his flight.
